What is an RHN?

A Registered Holistic Nutritionist (RHN) is a professional trained exclusively at the acclaimed Canadian School of Natural Nutrition (CSNN), whose principal function is to educate individuals about the benefits and health impact of optimal nutrition. Holistic Nutrition is generating tremendeous value within the medical community today as RHN's are sought to work close at hand with health professionals such as naturopaths, chiropractors, homeopathists, and even medical doctors to share one common goal: preventive health care through good nutrition.

Since obtaining my diploma and designation with honours, I have established a private practice in Kelowna and collaborate with various doctors who share in my passion for Lyme and women's healthIn addition, I have had the privilege of promoting health awareness through lectures, various online columns and print publications including the Okanagan Health and Wellness Magazine. As an RHN, I work with clients to identify and help correct the nutritional causes of diseases, and am qualified to design personalized diet and lifestyle programs that optimize health. More importantly, I focus on the entirety of an individual to recognize the imbalances that inflict not only the body, but the mind and spirit alike. My education and understanding of the connection between physical, mental and spiritual well-being enables me to detect the underlying issues that often need to be addressed in order to establish harmony on all levels.

As health practitioners, we recognize that it is the client who ultimately holds the key to his well-being. For this reason, we rely purely on the active participation and insight of each client as this forms the most valuable tool in identifying nutritional deficiency and disease prevention. Through this approach, the initial consultation becomes the most crucial stage involving an in-depth assessment and evaluation of body systems, lifestyle behaviors and overall well-being of the individual. From there on, the client obtains a comprehensive plan based on nutritional principles that target not only his symptoms, but the root cause of imbalance.

All of us are biochemically unique and therefore require an individualized approach in order to regain balance. Major factors to consider are genetics, metabolic patterns, immune function, diet, deficiencies, toxicity, physical and emotional stress which all contribute to a person's biochemical individuality. Understanding these traits can seem daunting especially when conflicting information through the media often confuse and misguide us on the principles of health. Although our role as RHN's is not to diagnose, treat, or cure disease, we are equipped with a wide array of genuine and science-based modalities that can instill awareness and insight to empower all clients seeking to advance their health through nutrition, regardless of age or gender.
